President's Message
A message from the MSHRM President, Becki Wolters, CPHRM | February 2026

One of the things I am most proud of about our organization is our culture of volunteerism. Simply put—we function and thrive because of our volunteers. From committee work to board leadership, our members generously give their time, expertise, and energy to keep our organization strong, relevant, and growing.
Currently, approximately 50% of our membership is actively volunteering, which is truly commendable and remarkably high for an organization of our size. This level of engagement speaks volumes about the dedication of our members and their belief in our mission. Every program we offer, every event we host, and every initiative we pursue is made possible because members step forward to help lead the way.
Getting involved in a leadership role offers meaningful benefits to you as a member. Chairing a committee or serving on the Board is a powerful step in professional development. It strengthens leadership and communication skills, expands professional connections, and offers valuable experience you can carry into your career. Just as importantly, it provides an opportunity to give back to a professional community that supports you—while helping innovate, grow, and strengthen our organization for the future.
And yes—it’s also fun. Volunteering creates friendships, builds camaraderie, and connects you with professionals who share your interests and values.
I encourage all members to mark their calendars for our Spring Meeting on March 10. During the Business Meeting, we will review each committee’s work, discuss opportunities to get involved, and highlight the benefits of joining the Board and taking on leadership roles. It’s a great chance to learn where your talents might fit and how you can make a difference.
Thank you to all of our current volunteers for your commitment and passion. If you’ve been considering getting involved, now is the perfect time. Together, we can continue to build an engaged, innovative, and successful organization.
