Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management ("CPHRM") Certificants

MSHRM Supports Professional Recognition

MSHRM members are encouraged to pursue the CPHRM and are strongly supported by MSHRM in this endeavor. ASHRM offers a CPHRM prep course online and in-person (www.ashrm.org). MSHRM members that are CPHRMs are also a resource for mentoring and coaching for those members seeking this certification. Another significant advantage for MSHRM members is that our chapter offers a significant amount of education each year in comparison to other chapters. Due to this emphasis on learning MSHRM members are able to acquire a significant amount of the necessary continuing education credits required by ASHRM/AHA for CPHRM recertification as part of the annual membership dues. Please contact [email protected] for information on mentors.

CPHRM status provides both internal and external rewards. CPHRMs enjoy the pride of recognition of being among the elite in a critical field of healthcare. And CPHRM is a premier credential based on a sound assessment that provides distinction in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

Where to go for more information on CPHRM

AHA Certification Center is the place to start the process of obtaining the CPHRM the web location is: https://www.aha.org/career-resources/certification-center/cphrm

To get started:

  • Candidate Handbook and Application The CPHRM Candidate Handbook and Application contains eligibility requirements, a complete content outline for the Examination, sample test items, instructions on applying for the Examination, and an application. Download a pdf file of the CPHRM Candidate Application and Handbook or call 888/519-9901 to request a copy.

Highly recommended:

  • Self Assessment Examination (SAE) The CPHRM Self-Assessment Examination is an online study tool created to simulate the Certification Examination in format, content and cognitive levels. MSHRM advice: This test is worth every dollar you will spend on it - especially if you are not a great test taker, as it simulates the actual experience of taking a computerized test and uses questions that are very similar to the actual test. It is also a great starting point to identify those areas that you need to spend more intensive study time on to ensure a passing score.

Renewal requirement:

  • Renewal Application The CPHRM Renewal Application includes criteria for acceptable continuing professional education. Download the CPHRM Renewal Application Instructions (6 pages).
  • Certification is valid for three years at which time it must be renewed. You have two options for renewal:
    • Option 1: Track and renew your CE credits by completing the Renewal Application form or logging into your Certification Portal and documenting 45 contact hours over the 3 - year certification period; or
    • Option 2: Retaking and passing the Certification Examination.

MSHRM Advice: Avoid the anxiety of having to scramble to find certificates proving you have enough credits or even entertaining the thought that you might have to go through taking the test again. Review the criteria of what satisfies the requirements for renewal now. Start a file/folder where you place a copy of each and every educational program attendance certificate you receive- and be sure you get an attendance certificate. Keep track of your speaking/education/publishing achievements and what you will need to have to satisfy renewal requirements and place those in your file/folder. Take advantage of the Certification Portal and enter your educational programs/ speaking/education and publishing achievements as you complete them. It is possible to meet the renewal requirements by attending ASHRM and MSHRM events alone. p.s. since you have collected all this great information it may be beneficial to see if you could also qualify for ASHRM designations of FASHRM or DFASHRM - much of the same material is required!

MSHRM would like to congratulate and recognize the following Michigan CPHRM Certificants for their commitment to excellence in their profession:
